Review of '32 Going on Spinster' by Becky Monson

Thirty- Two Going On Spinster

by Becky Monson

"According to Webster’s dictionary,

A spinster is:

1: an unmarried woman of gentle family
2: an unmarried woman and especially one past the common age for marrying
3: a woman who seems unlikely to marry
4: me

Julia Dorning is a spinster, or at least on the road to becoming one. She has no social life, hates her job, and lives in her parent’s basement with her cat, Charlie. With the arrival of Jared Moody, the new hire at work, Julia’s mundane life is suddenly turned upside down. Her instant (and totally ridiculous) crush on the new guy causes Julia to finally make some long-overdue changes, in hopes to find a life that includes more than baking and hanging out with Charlie. But when the biggest and most unexpected change comes, will the new and improved Julia be able to overcome it? Or will she go back to her spinster ways?"

**My thoughts**

Dear fans of Bridget Jones, Sophie Kinsella, and Marian Keyes, I have found an American author for you to meet and watch!

Julia has learned the definition of the word "spinster" and very quickly realizes that she is well on her way to fulfilling it. She has been living in her parents' basement apartment for the past ten years. She wears different versions of the same clothes every day. She never wears make-up, nor does her hair. She hates her job. Thanks to some intervention from her closest work friend, her sister, and inspiration from the new hottie at work, she is able to launch herself on her path to rediscovery. She can evolve from a spinster into the woman of her dreams that she has never before known existed!

I knew that I was going to like this book as soon as I saw the title. Something about those women in their mid-thirties who are still hopelessly single just appeal to me. You know what the basic storyline is going to be. You know how it is going to end. You can even anticipate a lot of the twists that are going to take place in this plot. But, you enjoy going for the ride with Julia, rooting for her the entire way.

This book comes to a satisfying conclusion, yet stays open for future installments. I want to read more about Julia. I want to watch her continue to grow into herself. I want to watch Becky grow as an author.
